A drug-addled mum has been freed after a harebrained attempt to rob two workers at an Ipswich snack bar failed miserably.

Jasmin Rhyanne Kamp, 28, pleaded guilty in the Ipswich District Court on November 7 to attempted armed robbery.

The court heard she was “highly intoxicated” when she appeared at the rear door of Riverview Snack Bar in Riverview, shortly after 11.30pm on May 25, 2021.

Hearing a noise, an employee at the shop opened the door to see Kamp masked and holding a screwdriver.

“Go home,” the worker told her.

“No, give me all the money, I want the money,” she said.

The worker shut the door in her face, and again said “go home or I will call the police”.

Kamp, however, was undeterred, banging on the door and demanding they give her money.

The two workers called triple-0 and Kamp was found less than an hour later walking home and wearing the same clothes.

The court heard she had no memory of the incident.

Prosecutor Christine Wilson said Kamp had been on remand for almost 11 months, telling the court the prosecution were not seeking any further jail time.

Her lawyer Dan Boddice said the “opportunistic” offending occurred during a rough patch for her client but she had been offered a job in roofing and was looking to reunite with her three children.

“She’s looking forward to a period of stability,” he said.

Judge Alexander Horneman-Wren SC told Kamp he was aware of her “truly horrendous” upbringing, adolescence and early adulthood.

“I can readily infer how this led into drug use and this offending,” he said.

“But perhaps for the first time … you appear clean of drugs and healthy. Hopefully that’s provided the circuit breaker you need.”

Kamp was convicted on the charge of attempted armed robbery and released with no further penalty.
