STATE of Origin is coming early to Fernvale.

The Old Fernvale Bakery is taking on a NSW bakery in the first ever Pie of Origin on Sunday.

The Fernvale bakery will be putting its award-winning chunky steak pie up against the same pie made be the Glenorie Bakery from north of Sydney.

Glenorie Bakery owner Robert Pirina put out a challenge on YouTube, looking for a Queensland bakery to take on in a pie-off.

Old Fernvale Bakery manager Cheryl Bunney said they put their hands up to take on Glenorie as soon as they heard of the competition.

She said their chunky steak pie had already won a number of national awards.

"Just recently one of our young apprentices won and award at the Great Aussie Pie competition for the chunky steak pie," she said.

"But the pie itself has won a lot of awards at a lot of competitions as well. It's one of our most popular pies.

The Pie of Origin will be decided by three judges, one from Queensland, one from NSW, and a still to be revealed special guest.

With $2 from every pie sold going to help Brisbane Valley flood victims, a prize will also be awarded to the bakery that raises the most money.

Ms Bunney said she hoped Pie of Origin would become annual. "We're hoping it will really take off and take place every year," she said.

"It'd be great to bring more bakeries into it too; it wouldn't have to be us and Glenorie competing every year."
