Staff shortages are to blame for the recent announcement of the closure of a well-known and beloved wood-fired pizza place.
Mike’s Pizzeria on Brisbane Street in Ipswich are hanging up their aprons — for now at least.
In a recent Facebook post, the owners of the popular restaurant shared the details behind the difficult decision to close their doors.
“2023 is off to a challenging start as we struggle fill vacant positions left by departing employees,” the post read.
“As a consequence we have made the tough decision to close the pizzeria until further notice.”
“We have tried really hard to bring a quality product to you all and do not want to jeopardise our reputation as a provider of some of the best wood fired neapolitan pizza in the city.”
Loyal customers flooded the post with their commiserations at the closure, with many having eaten at Mike’s since its opening.
“My heart and stomach are feeling sad after this news,” one comment read.
“Ipswich dining will not be the same without Mike’s Pizzeria. I hold hope you will once again ignite the fire and bring happiness to local foodies alike.”
“That's a shame, it’s the best pizza in Ipswich,” another read.
Others shared their dismay at the cause behind the closure.
“People complain about no work available but here is a great business looking for staff and no one wants to work. Such a shame when a business has to close because of staff shortage,” one commenter wrote.
Mike’s Pizzeria’s sister store, Heisenberg House, is still currently open for business and any guests with gift vouchers are urged to contact them for enquiries.
