Blood drops and shattered glass were scattered across a Redbank Plains home after a young pregnant woman violently attacked her partner.
An Ipswich courtroom heard Unique Lissa Syretha Tuisauta Kalolo took an Uber to her boyfriend’s home after she found out he had used her car to meet with an ex-partner in May 2021.
Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said what followed was a “serious episode of violence” aggravated by its domestic violence.
Magistrate Sturgess said Kalolo barged into the man’s home at 9.50am, yelling “where is she? You’re dead. I know she’s here.”
Kalolo searched the home and kicked a hole through a locked door.
She turned her attention to her partner and hurled a glass vase at his back.
The court heard it was fortunate Kalolo’s family arrived at the house because Kalolo grabbed the man by the hair and picked up a shard of broken glass and brandished it as a weapon.
Magistrate Sturgess said Kalolo’s sister intervened.
The man’s feet were bleeding after he walked through the broken glass.
The man attempted to flee into the bathroom where Kalolo beat his face and upper body.
Police were called and Kalolo left, smashing a window on her way out.
Magistrate Sturgess said the 22-year-old woman soon returned.
The man was forced to flee over his back fence and hide in his neighbour’s yard and when he returned a knife was sticking out of his bedroom door.
During the violent attack the man did not attempt to defend himself or strike Kalolo.
Kalolo’s lawyer said the new mum had no criminal history and her family in New Zealand were worried Kalolo would be deported and separated from her baby.
The court heard Kalolo had been friends with her partner since grade 10 at Redbank Plains High School.
They weren’t romantically involved until 2020 and conceived their child five months later.
On February 15, Kalolo pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm while armed in company, entering a dwelling to commit an indictable offence, entering a dwelling with intent while in company, threatening violence and wilful damage.
Magistrate Sturgess reiterated to Kalolo how serious the crime was before sentencing her to 18 months jail with immediate parole.
