'Important time of year' for people to reflect on themselves

To many, the beginning of a new year is an opportunity to reorganise and continue good practices, commit to changing certain behaviours, and make their life more enjoyable.

Whether Ipswich residents have sat and penned their resolutions in a journal — writing perhaps that they would like to ‘learn something new’ or ‘spend less money’ — or not, there are some easy ways they can work towards their 2022 goals.

The growing city has a vast number of resources, groups, and activities, ranging from financial counselling to social sport, that are ready for people to dive into immediately.

See a comprehensive list of organisations that could help you achieve your 2022 goals, below.

ART

LITTLE MOON STUDIO

People of all ages can kickstart their art at Eastern Heights’ newest creative hub, Little Moon Studio.

The shopfront arrived at 1/84 Grange Rd late last year, intended to be a social outlet for some, a therapeutic outlet for others, and a creative outlet for all.

Workshops, including ‘crafty kids and sensory play’ sessions for children aged six weeks to five years old and ‘craft club’ sessions for adults, are held weekdays at the studio.

Those eager to throw themselves into art, to meet new people, or simply try their hand at something different in 2022 might like to support this new venture of Ipswich resident Ashleigh Nguyen.

For more information, visit the Little Moon Studio website here.

SIP AND DIP

For those looking to be more creative in 2022, Sip ‘n’ Dip Ipswich is a fun way to make it happen.

Classes this year commence on January 7, ranging from learning to make resin pieces and candles to painting with watercolour.

The purpose of the classes is to help people access their creative side in a way that is low-pressure and affordable.

BOOK CLUB

IPSWICH LIBRARIES BOOK CLUBS

If ‘read more’ is a goal for this year, Ipswich Libraries should be at the top of the list of places to check out.

Gather a group of friends together and register your book club with Ipswich Libraries to access a range of books from the ‘book club sets’.

As a book club member, a person can borrow for a period of eight weeks and loan up to two book club sets — each comprising 10 copies.

DANCE

NY DANCE

If getting back into the swing of dancing was a New Year resolution, NY Dance could be the solution.

Based at 2B/31 Briggs Rd, Ipswich, the dance school has a range of classes this year for adults, boys, teenagers, and children.

There are daily sessions for adults alone, which make for a “fabulous” workout as well as being fun.

FINANCIAL COUNSELLING

UNITINGCARE COMMUNITY FINANCIAL COUNSELLING SERVICE

Some of the most common New Year’s resolutions worldwide are to save more and spend less. Luckily, there are a number of local organisations that can help Ipswich residents with this.

Funded by the Queensland government’s Financial Resilience program, UnitingCare offers a service at 39 Limestone St, Ipswich to help people get on top of their finances.

Those in need of urgent help are advised to call the National Debt Helpline (1800 007 007), but others who would like to take control of their budget and finances can register their interest in an appointment with a UnitingCare financial counsellor by filling out a form on the organisation’s website.

More information, including about grants and financial support, creating a budget, car repossession, and electricity bills, can be found on the UnitingCare website.

FISHING

IPSWICH AMATEUR FISHING CLUBS’ ASSOCIATION

People of all age groups from juniors to veterans interested in joining a fishing club can look no further than the Ipswich Amateur Fishing Clubs’ Association.

Through this club, all types of angling are promoted with competitions and anglers are entitled to fish in the Australian Anglers Association National Championships.

Queensland Amateur Fishing Club Association (QAFCA) has existed and been a place for members to socialise and hone their skills since 1949.

“There is an abundance of expertise in fishing clubs which has been developed over many years and there is no better way to gain this knowledge than through a personal association,” QAFCA stated on its website.
