Tyre marks lined the road and grass on a usually quiet Ipswich street where a single-car crash claimed the life of a 61-year-old Redbank Plains man early Wednesday morning.
A Holden sedan travelled across the wrong side of the road before crashing into two fences on Highbury Dr, Redbank Plains, about 5.50am.
Ambulance crews rushed to the scene but were unable to save the man’s life.
Police say initial investigations suggest the man suffered a medical episode leading up the crash, but investigations are ongoing.
A witness, who has lived on Highbury Dr for more than 10 years, described hearing a loud bang and being woken just before 6am on Wednesday morning.
“I heard when the car crashed into the fence – it was very loud. I thought it was the rubbish truck and that it had crashed or something,” the neighbour said.
“I thought ‘what was that? Today is not Thursday, it’s not bin day’.”
She said she then noticed flashing lights and, looking outside, saw an ambulance and fire trucks.
“They tried to save the person – it seemed to take half an hour – but nothing,” she said.
