THEY aren't stone or marble, but a range of impressive sculptures have been erected around Kalbar.

In the lead-up to the town's annual Country Day, locals are taking part in the yearly feat of turning hay bales into art.

From chickens, to boats, to pigs in need of a tissue, the Scenic Rim's finest hay artists' work have appeared on the streets of the town and throughout the Fassifern Valley.

Hay sculptors this year worked within the Year of the Farmer theme.

The Kalbar Country Day will be held on Saturday, October 13, starting in the main street of Kalbar at 7am.

The day will bring a range of entertainment from rides, to a hay scramble, to the popular pumpkin-rolling contests.

A range of Scenic Rim produce will also be on show as will local arts, crafts and baked goods.

Local bands will perform throughout the day and bush poets will be at a special breakfast from 7am.

The winners of the hay sculptures will be announced at midday.

For further information about the Kalbar Country Day phone Shirley Ernst on 5463 7711 or Kingsley Miller on 5463 9620.

The Kalbar Hay Festival is on again this year. Do you have any cool photos of hay sculptures? Send your images to photos@qt.com.au and we will put them up in this gallery for the world to see.
