Grim milestone as Ipswich Covid cases surpass 10,000
There’s been a sharp jump in Covid cases across many Ipswich suburbs over the past week with cases doubling in some locations. Here’s a full list of local hot spots:

Ipswich reached a grim milestone with over 10,000 residents testing positive as Covid-19 continues to sweep the state, nation, and world.
New data released by Queensland Health on Wednesday, January 19, shows positive Covid cases across many Ipswich suburbs are almost doubling on a weekly basis.
Redbank Plains, which recorded the fastest growing number of cases compared to any other Queensland suburb, has climbed to 1787.
Springfield Lakes is another local hotspot with 1075 recorded cases and the nearby suburb of Ripley reached 611 cases up from 339 the previous week.
In the same time frame, Goodna rose from 406 to 765, and Raceview from 256 to 598.
Across the entire district as of Thursday, January 20, 10,684 residents tested positive to the virus as the highly infectious Omicron variant continues to spread.
As state and international borders begin to open, Queensland recorded 16,812 new cases overnight and nine deaths.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the tragedy of the pandemic was at the forefront of her mind every day.
“Any death is a tragedy, every day I am reminded that each of these deaths during the pandemic is a grandparent, a parent, an aunt or an uncle,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
There are 91,300 active cases in Queensland as of January 20.
