With property prices rising and wages stagnant, the dream of owning a home is looking increasingly difficult to achieve for the average buyer.

In fact, it is hard to get a house under $300,000 anywhere today.
A lack of supply combined with increased demand for property across Ipswich is partly to blame for the increase in average sale prices over the past year.

Between September to December last year median prices reached $357,250 – an increase of 2.4 per cent.
REIQ Ipswich Zone Chair Glenn Ball said the southwest corridor had experienced an “extraordinary turnaround” in the wake of a global pandemic.
Despite the virus momentarily wreaking havoc on the market, it appeared recovery initiatives such as the Commonwealth’s popular Homebuilder grant also proved a much needed boost in activity.
Surprisingly, not all homes for sale in the sub-$300,000 bracket are the fabled “renovator’s dream” in need of hours or hard yakka to make liveable again.
There are a few homes in Ipswich’s suburbs that come ready to live in, but they are usually quite modestly proportioned with two or three bedrooms.
For something with a little bit more room, be prepared to put in some DIY if you want to spend less than $300,000.
The average cost of renovating a bathroom can be anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 while a kitchen could cost anywhere between $8,000 and $20,000 - depending on how fancy you want to get.
