THE cause of a house fire which gutted an Ipswich home in the early homes of Thursday morning is being attributed to a lithium battery which was left to charge overnight.

It was a lucky escape for the 11 people who live in the Riverview property on Neilson Crescent, which was significantly damaged in the blaze.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Paramedics assessed nine people at the scene but no one was injured or needed to be taken to hospital.

Five firefighter crews rushed to the property, with the first arriving at 1.20am.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said the tin and brick house was “well involved” in fire when crews arrived.

“All occupants were accounted for,” she said.

“By 1.45am the fire was under control. They did have to ventilate the property a little bit. The crews were just dampening down hot spots and continuing to extinguish the fire from there.

“All operations ceased around 4.25am and it was left in the hands of police.”

Police were on scene on Thursday morning but have now left.
