Festival blossoms in Goodna

ONLY months ago Evan Marginson Park was covered by floodwaters.

However, over the weekend the park was filled with people, rides and entertainment as Goodna celebrated its annual Jacaranda Festival.

People from across south-east Queensland, as well as hundreds of locals, made their way to the festival, which featured a sideshow alley and carnival food as well as a talent quest and variety show.

Some of Goodna's finest talents performed at the festival, including a number of performers from the Redbank Plains Grace Note Studios.

Singer and Grace Note student Katie Batty said she had been coming to the festival for years and was proud to be performing.

"I come every year to all three days," she said.

"It's a lot of fun. I was a bit nervous, but it was a lot of fun."

Also on the entertainment line-up were Goodna's Shiloh Line Dancers, a group of senior ladies who have performed at a number of community events.

Shiloh Line Dancers team leader Heather Lutvey said the group had performed at the festival in previous years.

"This is our home town," she said.

"We perform at a lot of community events, at nursing homes and the like.

"This is, I think, our third year performing at the festival."

Ms Lutvey said it was great for the spirit of Goodna to have the festival after many residents had had a tough year.

"It wasn't long ago that all of this was under water," she said.

"It's just great for the community."
