THE history of the Brisbane Valley was the star at Fernvale's inaugural Environment and Heritage Festival.
Photos and stories of Fernvale and Lowood's past lined the walls of the Fernvale Futures Complex, while stalls by local businesses and those from outside the region were set up outside.
Some of the region's finest singing talent was also on show with a talent quest held during the day.
Inside the futures complex, the stories of the two Brisbane Valley towns was told, from their origins as Stinking Creek and The Scrub to Fernvale and Lowood.
Through pictures and documents, the tale of their founding and the development of the railway through to modern times was told, as well as that of nearby localities.
However, the entertainment outside ventured away from local history, with historical re-enactors demonstrating period garb from medieval times and the late 17th century.
The crew of re-enactors from Ipswich performed an ongoing tourney throughout the day, dressed in full garb despite the heat.
Local children, including the newly formed Fernvale Girl Guides chapter, were present and took part in planting a number of trees.
