A well-known face around Ipswich, Sergeant Nadine Webster is not one to accept praise or awards for her incredible service to the region, but one achievement that shouldn’t go unnoticed is her 20 year anniversary with Crime Stoppers.

A police officer for almost 30 years, Nadine is passionate about crime prevention and education, serving her community and keeping the region safe.

As the police representative for the Ipswich Crime Stoppers, she is often out and about in the community, organising fundraisers, operating sausage sizzles or education school students.

The Queensland Times has reached out to Nadine’s family and friends and colleagues at Crime Stoppers and Queensland Police to congratulate her on the incredible anniversary on January 1, 2022.

Ipswich Crime Stoppers secretary Teigan said she first met Nadine when she was in Year 10 and did work experience at the Yamanto Police Station.

As per Nadine’s advice, Teigan later joined Crime Stoppers as a volunteer and now has been working alongside Nadine at the organisation for five years.

“Nadine is an inspiration to many individuals, including myself and I hope one day I can follow in her footsteps,” she said.

“Her values, morals and work ethic, as well as her strong commitment and dedication to the Queensland Police Service and Crime Stoppers Queensland is remarkable and appreciated by so many people around her.

“I don’t think she really understands how much she is respected and loved within the community and the groups she is involved in, and I really hope that this touching tribute shows exactly that.

“I personally want to thank and congratulate Nadine on her 20 year anniversary with Crime Stoppers Queensland and the effort she puts in with our local area committee as the Police Liaison Officer.”

Ipswich Crime Stoppers Chairperson Scott Mawhinney thanked Nadine for her unwavering commitment to the community.

‘Nadine has been the major force behind not only Crime Stoppers, but most crime prevention-related organisations in Ipswich.

“I’ve only known her for five years, but you can see the commitment she has to crime prevention and the community.

“If she’s not putting a sausage on a bit of bread one day, she’ll be talking to seniors groups about driver education another day.

“She has been with Crime Stoppers for 20 years and with her commitment she will be with us for another 20.”

“Without a doubt Nadine Webster is the best boss I have ever had,” volunteer Jacqui Martin said.

“Nadine is so genuine in all she does with her main concern being the safety of our community and always thinking of ways the unit can educate our locals how to stay safe.

“The Ipswich District should feel honoured to have her knowledge and care and we are in very safe hands.

“We have a lot of laughs amongst the seriousness that policing requires … she is always approachable and caring but you know who’s boss.

“Congratulations for 20 years in Crime Stoppers Nadine, well done.”

Nadine’s husband Leon said he and their two children were also extremely proud of her, for showing up and dedicating herself to the job and also being an amazing full time mum.

“I’m obviously very proud of her, I know how hard she works,” he said.

“Her main drive is to improve the community and she’s done that through her whole service.

“She does work very hard and it’s not just Crime Stoppers, she’s worked across Neighbourhood Watch, she’s been a school-based police officer, there’s not a lot she hasn’t done.

“She’s got rotary awards, and so many different awards and stuff she’s received over the years … she recently got her Australian Police Medal.

“But she doesn’t do it for the awards. She does it for the love of the job.”

Several of Nadine’s colleagues in the police force also spoke highly of her and congratulated her on her anniversary with Crime Stoppers.

Ipswich Crime Prevention Unit’s senior constable Kerrin Sheedy said she “thinks the world of Nadine” and agreed with Leon that she was not one to do things for the “limelight” and was extremely humble about her service.

“As a colleague and friend for the last 11 years, I have witnessed her kindness, compassion, and perseverance, determination, tenacity, passion and commitment to her role, her endeavours to achieve the utmost best for not only the QPS but for the committees she sits on, especially the Crime Stoppers Ipswich Volunteer Area committee where she strives for an outcome to assist and support, that is fair and just, for the community she serves.”

“Nadine is passionate, confident, and dedicated to her role … this has been exemplified by her loyal commitment to the Crime Stoppers Ipswich Volunteer Area Committee for the past 20 years where she gives valuable sound advice, personal support, and assists in co-ordinating events to raise funds.

“She is insightful, creative, thinks laterally and outside the box to enhance frontline delivery techniques improving communities’ receptiveness to Crime Stoppers and police.”

“Her willingness to engage with the community at all levels has really enhanced the relationship between police and people who might not otherwise have much involvement with us,” Inspector Doug McDonald said.

“Nadine’s reputation as an approachable and experienced officer is also greatly appreciated by the police she works with and you can often find her providing support and advice to colleagues at all ranks to enhance the way we professionally and compassionately engage with the community.”

Detective Acting Inspector Heath McQueen said Nadine was an asset to the Queensland police and her tenacity and enthusiasm over such a long period had delivered countless successful outcomes for the Ipswich community.

Well done Nadine, and congratulations on an incredible 20 years with Crime Stoppers.
