Family desperate to send water safety message

THE heartbroken family of a toddler who drowned in a family pool says the loss of their adorable little boy Tyson is immeasurable.

THE heartbroken family of a toddler who drowned in a family pool says the loss of their adorable little boy Tyson is immeasurable.

Tyson, 15 months old, died in Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane on Saturday after being pulled from the pool at Regency Downs 45km west of Ipswich on Friday.

It came after the body of two-year-old boy, Caiden, was found in a dam at a Hatton Vale family's property on Thursday.

Tyson's family, who don't want their surname published, has asked for as much help as possible to set up a legacy for him.

His parents are thankful to the doctors, nurses and ambulance paramedics for the love and care of their beautiful boy.

"My heart is broken and I miss his smells and cheeky smile but most of all I miss his early morning cuddles," Tyson's mum Krissy said. Equally heartbroken, his father Justin said: "I've lost my little barefoot mate and the farm is quiet without him."

Sobbing, Tyson's grandmother said that in life he had everyone wrapped around his little finger.

"The best night I ever had was his sleepover. Once the cat stopped hitting Tyson he laughed the whole night," she said.

His Aunty Bev said last Friday had been "a fantastic day".

"He was running amuck with cousin Thomas and laughing all day," she said.

Uncle Ashley added: "His cheeky grin will be missed and his love of live is missed forever.

"Tyson was always getting in and out of trouble with just a smile."

Krissy asked every parent to read Don't Rush the Hugs by Dr Robyn Silverman, to help them realise how short life can be:

Don't rush the hugs, my mumma always said.

Don't rush the kisses,

Just to get them to bed.

Don't rush the: 'I love you' just to get out the door.

Don't rush for one day you will wish there were more.

Also, Krissy urged parents: "Always make sure your pool gate is shut, check it that it has closed correctly and never prop it open. Tragedies happen in a second; don't believe it can't happen to you."

Katherine Plint from Hannah's Foundation said Tyson's family had already spoken about awareness and water safety messages.

"Sadly the four deaths in backyard pools in Queensland have all been propped open gates and whilst pool safety legislation was changed in Hannah's name in 2009, it's time to make sure pool owners are aware of their responsibilities," Mrs Plint said.

Hannah's Foundation has organised support and a fund to help Tyson's family.

Tyson's family is also organising a Tyson soft toy donation to be distributed to children who have lost loved ones and to sick children.

Tyson's funeral will be in Laidley next week.
