Queensland’s oldest provincial city has come to life this week as the Galvanized Festival shines a light on Ipswich’s most unique historical landmarks while hosting a number of magical events.
Just a few of the social events, which will run from September 1-11, include a clandestine Prohibition Party, ghost tours, and blacksmithing workshops at The Workshops Rail Museum.
The 1920s was a period of celebration after the extreme hardships of World War I, and on Saturday a Prohibition Party will capture the spirit of locals who worked and operated the now historic Queensland rail yards through that time. The night of secrecy and 1920s glamour will treat guests to a special event steeped in local history while enjoying a ‘bootleg’ brew — guests can also try their hand at ‘play poker’ in the museum’s heritage parlour.
The Workshops Rail Museum programming and engagement manager Richelle McClymont said there were still tickets left and invited the community to come together and share an iconic period of Ipswich history.
“Visitors can join in and feel like they are shedding their worries and cares for an evening of music, dancing, and entertainment, like they did during the prohibition,” Ms McClymont said.
“History isn’t boring, it’s also a chance to engage socially around a shared history and immerse yourself completely in it.”
