LOCKYER District High School has won its first grand champion sash from the Ekka thanks to their lowline bull Loc-Hi Hero.

Loc-Hi Hero, handled by Caitlin Goltz, took out first place in the 30 months and under 42 month class before parading straight back into the ring for the judging of the senior champion bull.

From here he went on to win senior champion bull and was named grand champion junior bull for the show.

It was the first time in five years of exhibiting at the Ekka that Lockyer District High School had won a grand champion ribbon.

Agricultural Science teacher and cattle team co-ordinator Judy Schultz said it was a wonderful outcome for the school.

"The students have been outstanding in the way that they have prepared the cattle for every show, but to take out this kind of award at the Ekka is something special," Mrs Schultz said.

Not to be outdone, Loc-Hi Hero's teammate Loc-Hi Jordie, handled by Aaron Goltz, took out second place in the cow or heifer 20 months and under 30 months.

This year's Ekka was only the second time Lockyer District High School had presented their own cattle at the show, after five years of assisting other studs.

It was the first Ekka for Loc-Hi Hero.

"It has been a great all-round effort by the students, and something they and the school should be very proud of," Mrs Schultz said.

"The team has really a learned a lot this week, and most certainly been rewarded for their hard work and dedication."

The Ekka marks the end of the 2015 show season for the cattle team, however after the success this year the students will be raring to go for next year.
