Dylan Horridge returns to Ipswich court after failed car-chase escape in Brassall

Police found this Ipswich father in possession of meth after his failed attempt to evade capture in Brassall.

Dylan Horridge, 23, faced court today after a failed attempt to evade custody in Brassall earlier this year.

On January 29, the father of two was pursued by police while driving without a license.

Horridge attempted to evade capture by accelerating and driving on the wrong side of the road for a short time. His escape attempt was quickly thwarted when he drove over devices that deflated his tires and brought his car to a halt.

The police found 3.58 grams of methamphetamine on his possession, along with other drug-related paraphernalia.

Horridge was taken into custody and charged for driving without a licence, evasion, possession of drug-related utensils, and possession of dangerous drugs.

He pleaded guilty to all four charges.

The court heard Horridge has a history of similar offences, for which he was released on parole in October last year.

However, his parole was suspended in December after he returned a urine sample.

Horridge’s defence lawyer Mr Strong said Horridge has struggled with ice addiction for some time, having initially taken to drugs after suffering family hardships. He has since relied on drugs during difficult circumstances.

Mr Strong said Horridge initially fared well after his release on parole last October, but returned to drugs after a bad break-up in which he was kicked out of his house. He further struggled with his addiction throughout the Christmas period.

Horridge received a head sentence of nine months imprisonment, with the 83 days between his arrest and his appearance in court declared time served. He was also declared eligible for parole release today.

“You’re getting the benefit of that fact you’re showing good signs of rehabilitation and your youth,” said Magistrate Dennis Kinsella.

Horridge intends to return to his job as a roof labourer and continue a positive relationship with his youngest child upon his release from custody.

He was disqualified from obtaining a licence for further two years, and Magistrate Kinsella urged him to seek rehabilitation.
