An Ipswich man has faced court, accused of beating a pregnant woman in an attempt to kill her unborn child.
Ipswich man Jesse Charles Hallett was arrested, charged, and denied bail after he allegedly subjected his on-again-off-again partner to horrid abuse.
Police will allege the 20-year-old Wulkuraka man wanted the woman to get an abortion and when she refused, he allegedly tried to take matters in to his own hands.
The unemployed man was arrested on Thursday, September 15, and failed in a bid for bail during his court appearance the following day at Ipswich.
Magistrate Dennis Kinsella said Mr Hallett allegedly punched the woman’s pregnant belly, pushed her, and threatened to “blow her head” off with a shotgun.
The alleged death threats were made through Snapshot and police have screenshots as evidence.
A police spokesman said the pregnant woman’s eight-week-old unborn child appeared to be all right.
Mr Hallett was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, attempted unlawful assault of a pregnant female, written threats to murder, stalking, and the unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Mr Hallett was represented in court by Walker Pender Group director and lawyer Matthew Fairclough who submitted an unsuccessful bail application.
He indicated Mr Hallett would be contesting the charges.
Magistrate Dennis Kinsella refused to grant the man bail and set his next court day aside for a committal mention on October 5.
