Police are investigating the cause of a crash that left a woman with serious pelvic injuries on a major highway.

The Cunningham Highway was blocked near the Redbank Plains Rd exit after a truck and a car were involved in a serious crash about 4.20pm.

Inspector Kylie Rigg said the truck was following the vehicle and was unable to stop before colliding into the rear.

The truck then swerved across the median strip of the highway.

A 32-year-old Ipswich woman driving the car suffered pelvic injuries and was taken to the PA Hospital in a stable condition.

Her injuries were serious but not life-threatening, police said.

Several other people, including a 31-year-old woman and two children, were treated for minor injuries.

Insp Rigg said police were taking statements from witnesses to the crash.

“It shows the importance of following at a safe distance, and allowing enough room depending on the size of the vehicle you are driving,” she said.

The highway was blocked in both directions near the Redbank Plains Road off-ramp for several hours as a result of the crash.
