Don't miss out on the headlines from Ipswich. Followed categories will be added to My News.
UNTIL last year Marburg teenager Shivon Le Bars hadn't even considered modelling.
She stepped outside her comfort zone and took part in the 2010 Woman's Day Miss Country Girl Australia.
She was runner-up.
This month the 19-year-old university student at Gatton campus will compete in her second Woman's Day Miss Country Girl Australia quest.
"It would be great to win, but it's not about winning for me," she said.
"Last year I just had such a great time, I met some great people and got so much confidence out of it."
A country girl at heart, Shivon said the competition, with its emphasis on young women from rural backgrounds, was a great opportunity.
"I definitely think it's a great competition," she said.
"Things like this don't come up outside of cities very often."
Despite her new-found success in modelling, Shivon is working towards a career in customs and quarantine.
The avowed horse lover is studying Production Animal Science at the Gatton campus of the University of Queensland but, given the chance, she wouldn't rule out a career in modelling.
The competition will be held at Rosecity Shoppingworld in Warwick on September 30 and October 1.
Finalists will be flown to Sydney to contest the national finals.
The competition has been held since 2009, with the national winners coming from Goulburn in the competition's inaugural year and Bendigo in 2010.
