Bundamba internet interrupted after alleged vandalism

More than 1400 homes west of Brisbane have been affected after a vehicle was used to allegedly damage NBN infrastructure, but services are expected to start coming back online from later today.

About 1400 Bundamba properties have been affected after a vehicle allegedly was used to damage NBN infrastructure on Monday, July 22, with services only today starting to come back online.

A NBN Co spokesman said it was aware of the issue.

“We believe a vehicle may have caused damage to network infrastructure at approximately 8pm on Monday evening,” he said.

“NBN apologises for any inconvenience caused to local residents.”

He said the company was exploring options for an interim solution to get affected services back online as soon as possible.

After completion of repair work about 6.30pm on Tuesday services began to return to normal.

But by 9am on Wednesday, July 24, network outages were still affecting many residents.

In an update provided to one resident, NBN Co said “the technician has advised that fibre cables have been damaged due to vandalism”.

“I was on my computer and it suddenly switched off,” the resident said.

“I went to check the NBN box and it has a red optical light on … annoying.”

Another resident joked: “No Wi-Fi meant my husband couldn’t game and I couldn’t watch Netflix last night.

“So we had to talk to each other ... (but) I would rather have NBN back though.”
