IPSWICH rang in 2012 in style on Saturday night as a spectacular fireworks display lit up the city.
Rides, performers and musicians kept the crowd of young and old entertained before the main attraction began at 8pm.
This year's celebrations were moved to the North Ipswich Reserve from their previous location at Timothy Molony Park.
Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said the night was a great way to celebrate the start of the New Year.
"It was an absolutely fantastic night," he said.
"All the kids there were enjoying themselves and that was just fantastic to see.
"It was a great way to start 2012 and to finish off 2011."
Rides were an especially popular part of the night with crowds of children lining up to take part in the carnival atmosphere.
Entertainers Rhett and Tilly wowed the crowed with a popular set of acrobatic and juggling performances.
Fellow acrobatic group Slam Dunk was equally popular, attempting their best Harlem Globetrotters impersonation by showing off their skills on the basketball court with the assistance of a few trampolines.
Alongside the acrobats local musical group Beauty and the Beats performed a range of songs, impressing the crowd with their R and B songs and beat boxing performances.
However, the real star of the night was the fireworks spectacular that lit up the night's sky. With the family audience in mind the fireworks began at 8pm and celebrated the final hours of the year.
The Ipswich sky was illuminated by the display that wowed the local crowd.
Cr Pisasale said while 2011 had been a tough year for a lot of residents of the city, Ipswich's true spirit had shone through.
"The fireworks were a spectacular way to start 2012 and it's time to start looking forward," he said.
"The past year was tough but it's taught us how good of a community spirit we do have here in Ipswich."
