A TEENAGER charged with murder has made a bail application before Ipswich Children’s Court.
Judge Dennis Lynch QC closed the court to media representatives when the 16-year-old began his application through defence counsel Michael Copley QC.
Judge Lynch said Queensland Youth Justice legislation prevented media being in the courtroom to hear a child’s bail application.
The youth’s mother was allowed to stay in the courtroom to offer support.
The Queensland Times understands the youth is charged with the murder of Carlo Piero Stewart, 31, at North Booval on the evening of Tuesday, July 27.
The Queensland Courts registry was contacted for details of the outcome of the bail application and to clarify the charges.
The office replied it was not able to provide any information.
Its brief reply states: “Queensland Courts registries are unable to share information arising from any Childrens Court matter due to the restrictions contained in the Youth Justice Act 1992 (YJA).
“Your request does not come within one of the listed exceptions for disclosure contained in the YJA.”
Police have previously stated that Mr Stewart, from Logan, died after being shot during an incident on Baden Jones Way at 5pm on July 27.
Two men have been charged and remain in custody with their matters mentioned earlier this month before Ipswich Magistrates Court.
Tye Joshua Bickle, 28, from Logan Central, is charged with one count of murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm; Brayden Alan Wilson-Knight, 24, from North Booval, is charged with one count of murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.
