ON MORE than 30 occasions, over four separate days, while working at Sam's Warehouse checkout in Booval, Zac Jon Burr took almost $500 cash ... for himself.
The 18-year-old, currently unemployed man yesterday pleaded guilty at the Ipswich Magistrates Court to one count of stealing.
The court heard Burr stole $493.86 while working as a cash register attendant at the discount store.
On four separate days between July 30 and August 9, 2013, Burr was captured on CCTV taking the money customers were paying for goods with on 31 separate occasions and putting it directly into his wallet, or onto a bench he would later collect the money from.
Despite the CCTV evidence when the store initially began investigating Burr's actions he denied stealing the cash.
Despite duty lawyer Bonnie O'Brien requests for a conviction to not be recorded due to his youth and prospective employment prospects Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said stealing from an employers was a serious issue.
"While he isn't charged with stealing as a servant, that's what this is," she said. "Employers have a right to know and make the choice themselves if they employ someone who has done this."
Burr was fined $800 for the stealing and ordered to pay restitution of $493.86. A conviction was recorded.
