AN IPSWICH private school is seeking approval from the council to construct a brand new building to replace demountable facilities but it won’t increase the number of classrooms, students or staff on campus.

A development application was submitted to Ipswich City Council by Bethany Lutheran Primary School, seeking the green light for the project.

The Raceview school proposes to construct the facility in the north eastern section of the 4.26 hectare site.

“The proposed development involves a new general learning area building to replace existing demountable buildings,” the application noted.

“The building has been architecturally designed as an ‘L’ shaped building that integrates with the existing campus buildings.

“The spaces include a staff room and offices, staff and student amenities, storage spaces, breakout areas, two meeting rooms, four general learning areas and a central flexible learning area.

“The building exhibits exemplary sub-tropical design with the use of wrap-around balconies and excellent cross-flow opportunities provided by the extensive operable windows.

“The new modular design provides for four general learning areas and a flexible learning area. As the proposal involves the replacement of existing educational spaces, there will be no increase in student or staff as a result of the development.

“(It would) replace five current general learning spaces currently located within demountable buildings.”

The application was signed off by Lutheran Education Queensland executive director Dennis Mulherin and chief financial officer Kerryn Simpfendorfer.

The school, which was established in 1982, is surrounded by residential properties including a townhouse development to the north approved in 2019.

No extra car parks are included in the proposed development.

“The development is an upgrade to the existing facilities on site to provide a high standard of learning for staff and students,” the application stated.

“The works are an investment into the school to upgrade the current facilities to provide an improved learning experience for staff and students

The last approval sought by the school, for a multi-purpose centre, was granted by the Ipswich in 2018.
