The family of a man killed in an Ipswich car crash at the weekend has been left reeling for a third time, with the latest tragedy taking the life of “one of the kindest men to ever walk the earth”.

QLD's 2022 road toll described as "concerning"

The man who lost his life in a car crash at Fernvale at the weekend has been identified as a beloved grandfather who recently lost two grandchildren in separate bouts of tragedy.

William ‘Bill’ Mctackett, 58, died Saturday, February 11, after a traffic crash at Fernvale.

Police investigations at the time revealed the Birkdale man was driving a Hyundai Excel which crashed with a Suzuki Swift at the intersection of Forest Hill Fernvale and Fielding roads.

Mr Mctackett sadly died from his injuries at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

His death follows a heartbreaking period for his family.

The dedicated grandfather mourned a grandson and a step-grandson in 2021 — Emmanuel Eveleigh, 5, and Aiden Braumann, 13.

Aiden’s tragic death at Cedar Creek Falls in April of 2021 was followed just months later by a heartbreaking dog attack which claimed the life of step-cousin Emmanuel, lovingly known as Manny, on Christmas Eve.

Mr Mctackett’s family has since shared their devastation at his loss.

His daughter and Manny’s mother Samara Mctackett said her father was “one of the kindest men to ever walk the earth”.

“He was always willing to help whoever he could, even if he wasn’t in the position to help himself,” she said.

“Dad will be remembered for his funny jokes, his support in anything and everything, his courage to stand up for what was right, his love for his family and friends and his free spirit.

“I’m not sure where we will go from here dad, or how we’re gonna (sic) get through this but I promise to make your memory live on for as long as I breathe,” she said.

“Love you Uncle Bill, rest in peace, you will be sadly missed by many,” he said on Facebook.

Vanessa Beij wrote: “RIP Bill. Now you’re happy in heaven with two other beautiful souls.”

“Please God look after his kids that are trying to get through this bad tragedy.”

Members of the community took to social media to share their sympathy and well wishes to Mr Mctackett’s family.

“This is so sad, so many crashes over the last month,” commented one member of the Fernvale community.

“Nearly becoming a daily event in Fernvale,” said another.

The other driver involved in the crash, a 77-year-old Lowood woman, was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition on Saturday morning.

On Monday, February 13, a hospital spokesperson said she remained critical but stable in the intensive care unit.
