The lawyer of a man charged with murdering his girlfriend’s father at North Ipswich on Christmas Eve said the case could not proceed until more evidence was provided.
Garth Michael Reid, 34, is accused of killing Warren Toby — his then partner’s dad — during an argument, which spilled into the front yard of a Hall Street home.
The alleged stabbing happened just before midnight on Christmas Eve 2020.
Paramedics treated Mr Toby’s stab wounds, although the 53-year-old could not be revived.
Mr Reid was charged with one count each of murder, wilful damage, and assault.
On Wednesday, February 23, a Legal Aid representative told the court a lengthy adjournment was needed to obtain and review outstanding evidence.
“We’ve received all but one particular certificate which will ultimately be received in the next two weeks,” she said.
“So council will need to read that and then conference with my client.”
The court heard Covid-19 restrictions at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre made it difficult for Mr Reid and his lawyers to discuss the case.
Magistrate David Shepherd adjourned the case for a mention on April 20, and noted the 34-year-old would not be required to appear via video link.
