To celebrate The Courier-Mail’s 175th anniversary we’re taking a look back at some amazing photos from our picture library. Can you spot yourself in this classic?

The Story of Brisbane

ON A hot day in February 1953, The Courier-Mail dispatched a photographer to the Valley Pool in Brisbane to capture an image of youngsters enjoying themselves.

The vibrant photo he took is typical of the hundreds of thousands in The Courier-Mail’s picture library, a genuine slice of Queensland life.

Kids cooling off and having fun, in the same was they did in 1846 when the Moreton Bay Courier began, and in the same way they splashed around, in the same pool, over the summer just gone. This month, The Courier-Mail is celebrating our 175th anniversary, and we’ll be sharing with you some of the great images and yarns from our archives.

Then, on June 19, a special edition of the paper will mark not just how much our state has changed in those 175 years, but how much The Courier-Mail has helped changed our state – for the better.
