A house that collapsed in New Farm after its foundations gave way, luckily stopping just before it hit a neighbouring home, may have to be demolished.
It is understood LEG Constructions, which was behind the development, is working with authorities to move the house safely over the coming days.
A demolition crew will assist with the process and then the company will work to see if any parts of the home are salvageable.
If not the house may have to be demolished.
Tradesman are working next door on the neighbouring property while passers-by stop to look and take photos of the site.
The house is part of a multi-dwelling development on Harcourt Street and was believed to not be connected to power or any water mains at the time of collapse.
The builder’s son, Eddie Mallan, said his father has been in the construction industry for about 60 years and “nothing like this has ever happened before.”
“Nothing like this has ever happened before but unfortunately a gust of wind came at the wrong time when we were trying to move the house towards the front of the property,” he said.
“It was just a freak accident but thankfully no one was injured”.
“We are working with authorities to resolve this unfortunate situation,” he said.
Workplace Health and Safety inspectors and investigators have been on scene and will investigate the incident.
They will work to ensure the site is safe to those on the site and people passing by.
