The house had reportedly been engulfed by flames by the time fire crews arrived. It was contained by 9am.

Bystanders said the smoke and flames alerted them to the fire around 8.30am as they could see it from their own home two streets over.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the cause of the fire remained undetermined and is under investigation.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Station Officer Alex Pearl said that it was also unknown where the fire started in the house.

“Today we had a single house on arrival that was fully involved in fire,” he said.

“We had fire coming out of all four walls, we had fire coming out the roof and the property next door was under threat. We had fire burning that house next door and it has been partially burnt.”

While the neighbouring house came “very close” to also being destroyed, Mr Pearl said it would still be able to be lived in.

“Crews on scene were really challenged with the work,” he said

“If it wasn’t for their quick work then we would’ve lost the second house for sure.”

He said the street is entirely residential and there were no occupants home at the time of the fire in any of the neighbouring properties.

There were no reported injuries.

Nearby residents believe a number of the residences on Reid St were abandoned houses, including the house that collapsed.

They also understood there were squatters residing in the house that was destroyed however Mr Pearl said he didn’t yet have information to confirm that.

Mr Pearl said the emergency services were still working to contact the owners of the property.
