Honourable John Jerrard, former Family Court of Australia judge, dies aged 73
The Queensland judicial community is mourning the loss of esteemed legal mind, the Honourable John Jerrard, who died peacefully in his sleep on Monday morning.

The Queensland judicial community is mourning the loss of esteemed legal mind, the Honourable John Jerrard QC.
A former judge on the Queensland Court of Appeal and Family Court of Australia, Mr Jerrard, 73, died peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Monday at his Brisbane home.
He was born in Miles and raised in Taroom, western Queensland as the son of a grazier and attended The Southport School and the University of Queensland before gaining a Masters of Law from University College, London.
Renowned for his formidable legal intellect, Mr Jerrard acted throughout his career to bring justice for Queenslanders and had a strong commitment to country people, due to his rural upbringing.
He retired from court in 2008 due to ill health but continued to assist as an independent advisor to the Queensland Police’s Controlled Operations Committee.
He leaves behind wife Bronwyn and twin sons Alexander and Geoffrey, 18.
