The family of a five-year-old preschool student who died after being discharged from Logan Hospital are no closer to learning the truth about their son’s fate, after an autopsy was reportedly inconclusive.
Hiyaan Kapil died two hours after being discharged from the hospital’s emergency department on Sunday night, after his parents took him due to severe stomach pain and vomiting.
They were told he was suffering a stomach bug and that he needed hydration and bed rest.
Nine News reported on Wednesday night Hiyaan’s family had received a call from authorities saying his autopsy results were inconclusive.
Adding to the family’s grief, they were unable to be sent a copy of the report because it had been sent to the coroner.
The family have reportedly not been told of any likely causes of Hiyaan’s death. They have also been told tests could take up to two to six months.
Hiyaan’s funeral will be held on Thursday.
Logan Hospital last week reportedly had its second busiest day on record, as the state battled an ambulance ramping crisis blamed on a spate of respiratory illnesses and patients not being able to access GPs.
The hospital, along with Queensland police, will prepare a report for the coroner.
