Health data reveals more flu cases in Queensland being treated in the ICU than Covid

There are now more people in intensive care with the flu than there are with Covid-19, new government figures reveal.

QLD health system faces mounting pressure

There are now more people in the intensive care unit with the flu than there are with Covid-19 across the state, according to the latest government data.

As of June 7, Queensland Health reported that there were 148 people in Queensland hospitals with the flu, including 14 people in the ICU.

This has now surpassed the 12 people who are currently in the ICU with Covid-19, according to the latest data from Queensland Health’s daily update which reported case numbers in the 24 hours to 11am on June 8.

Covid hospitalisations are still greater than those with the flu however, with 312 people in hospital with Covid compared to 148 with the flu.

Flu hospitalisations have also dropped slightly since May 30, when there were 156 people reported in hospital, despite health authorities previously warning of figures potentially reaching “well over” 400 to 500 admissions.

It comes as Queensland Health recorded 4257 Covid-19 cases overnight and 15 deaths, which is the highest number of deaths the state has recorded in two weeks.

The state is now also on the cusp of a new milestone as 93.99 per cent of Queenslanders have gotten their first jab, while 92.44 per cent are now double dosed.
