A TEEN who effectively played a "passenger role" when he joined his older brother in threatening to kill a Cooloola Cove family in their home last July, faced Gympie District Court this week.

Jayden Anthony Jacobson, 18, was given two years probation and 240 hours of community service for his role in the attack, which left a family petrified.

He was in the company of his older brother Travis Terrence Carsburg, 25, and another man when they hunted down a youngster believed to have damaged his brother's car.

The groop of three threatened to kill a family inside their home and kicked the door so hard through the screen; a woman was struck in the stomach.

Jacobson pleaded guilty to trespass, wilful damage, stealing, common assault and breach of bail.

"This came close to being a home invasion, but it wasn't," crown prosector G. Cummings told the court on Monday.

Judge J. Robertson said the teen's drunken state most likely played a part in his out of character behaviour, coupled with his brother's authority.

"More significantly you were in company with your older brother who undoubtedly influenced you to go," he said.

He noted the defendant's good character, mentioning his involvement in the Rainbow Beach Surf Lifesavers Club and his talent on the football field.

His brother, who appeared before the Gympie District Court in October, was sentenced to three years jail with parole release dated to last month.
