A SUBARU caught on Rainbow Beach's notorious Mudlo Rocks and then abandoned by its driver is slowly starting to disappear under the sand.
Concerns had been raised by Rainbow Beach residents about the safety of the car and who was responsible for the removal of the wreck from the beach before fuel and oil polluted the beach. Gympie Regional Council was unsure of who was responsible for the wreck, this week saying they thought it was the Department of Environment and Resource Management (DERM).
And, DERM thought it was the Gympie Regional Council's responsibility because the beach was a gazetted road.
Council was still investigating the grey area yesterday and will give residents an answer next week. By then, though, the problem may have been buried under the sand.
