GYMPIE residents took to social media in disgust on the weekend after seeing a man mistreat his dog in public.
The man was described as beating into his Labrador in front of a crowd of people after it "got into a tiff at the dog park" near the duck ponds on Saturday.
One witness wrote on Facebook on Saturday:
"This (man) was punching this dog in the head, choking it and even full on kicked it in the ribs.
"The poor dog was limping and after the veracity of that kick and the amount of punches to the head it took, I can only begin to imagine the internal damage it is now going through."
"It is just sickening to see something like this."
The witness took the man's number plate and photos and reported it to police.
Gympie police could not comment on any reports of animal cruelty over the weekend but urge anyone with information to come forward.
A police spokesman said anyone who witnesses animal cruelty can contact the police as well as RSPCA.
He advised any witnesses to get as much information as they can including time, date, place and any information about the suspect.
