FRIDAY:
GYMPIE is predicted to reach 29 degrees tomorrow...that's just half a degree below the hottest July day on record and seven degrees above the usual July day.
It was around this time last year, on July 26, that Gympie had a cracking 29.4 degree day, making it the hottest July day since weather data has been recorded in Gympie in 1908.
"We might get close to some records," Meteorologist Sean Fitzgerald, of the Bureau of Meteorology, told The Gympie Times.
Today is also expected to be up there- reaching 28 degrees, but a cool change on Saturday evening will mean Sunday should return to 25 degrees, Mr Fitzgerald said.
The evenings will also be warm for this time of year, with a minimum of 14 degrees predicted for tonight, close to eight degrees hotter than the average July night time temperatures.
But the nigh time tempertures will not be smashing any records, as the hottest Gympie July night in history was a staggering 24 degrees on July 29, in 1967.
The average day time temperature for July in Gympie is 21.9.
THURSDAY:
EVEN though Gympie has had some blanket-kicking warm evenings this week, it's not all bad news for winter-lovers as forecasters say the normal July temperatures should return by Monday.
Meteorologist Sean Fitzgerald, of the Bureau of Meteorology, said the moist air, which has been "trapping the heat in like a blanket" for the past few days meant minimum night time temperatures, like that of 14.3 on Thursday night, were well above the July long-term average low of 6.3 degrees.
Hot temperatures of 28 degrees during the day on Friday and Saturday are also predicted - a good six degrees hotter than Gympie's long-term average top July temperature of 21.9.
The low-level moisture-dense cloud was also responsible for extreme areas of fog across the state, particularity directly west of Gympie, Mr Fitzgerald.
But the air is forecast to dry up and see temperatures return to average after Saturday, he said.
"The air's going to dry out and cool on Saturday during the day, as a cool, dry change comes from the south," he told The Gympie Times.
The oncoming cool temperatures should last to at least the end of the month, he said, bringing back winter to where it should be.
