Wet and windy outlook for the week

Coastal wind warning and a week of showers means a bleak week may be a head

WEATHER could be a little on the foul side in the Gympie region this week as a persistent onshore flow is predicted to bring wind and showers to much of eastern Queensland.

“A broad high pressure system has taken residence over the south east and won't be moving any time soon,” Weatherzone forecaster Drew Casper-Richardson said.

“This will direct moist onshore winds and showers over coastal parts of the "Sunshine State" until at least Friday.

As a result a Strong Wind Warning was has been issued on Sunday from the Gold Coast all the way up to the Peninsula coast, including the Fraser Island and Sunshine Coast coasts. South easterly winds will be strongest during Monday afternoon and evening, reaching 30-55km/h with gusts potentially reaching 80km/h at times through to Wednesday.

On Thursday the high will weaken allowing the onshore winds to ease.

The moist winds will also bring showers to the coast and eastern parts of the adjacent ranges. While falls will be heaviest between Cairns and Townsville, the Gympie region is set for a sprinkling with light rain predicted for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and returning on the weekend.

Temperatures will be mild during the week with minimums remaining around 11-13 degrees and top temperatures sitting around 23 degrees for the week.

On Friday the high will shift eastwards allowing the winds to ease. There are indications of a low pressure developing over the weekend which would maintain the wet conditions.
