JAMES Nash State High School awarded its 2010 scholarships to 10 grateful students on Wednesday.

James Nash principal Darrin Edwards hosted a special afternoon tea to present the scholarships to the Year 7 pupils.

He said it was the highlight of his year when he rang up the children to tell them they had won the scholarships.

“These are amazing young people and their parents should be very proud of them,” he said.

The scholarships, valued at $250, are given to the students for school expenses by the Parents and Citizens Association and are aimed at attracting talented students to the school.

Three awards were presented for excellence in maths/science. The recipients were Kalum Warhurst (Gympie South), Samantha Kapernick (Gympie South), and Hayley Pomerenke (Two Mile).

Three scholarships were awarded for instrumental music and the recipients were Taylor Jardine (Gympie West), Vanessa Baker (Gympie South), and Daniel Hourigan (Gympie West).

Three scholarships were awarded for English.

The recipients were Brendan Boyd (Two Mile), Hudson Meads (Two Mile) and Cartiah McGrath (Amamoor).

Stuart Wilson from Two Mile won the sporting scholarship.
