A WEEKEND of accident trauma for the region ended with the worst news yesterday evening when a man passed away in hospital following a dirt bike accident at Traveston Crossing.

Gympie paramedics were called to four road crashes and a horse-riding accident yesterday; two involving patients airlifted to hospital and one involving the 31-year-old Cooran bike rider who died at Nambour General Hospital last night due to serious head injuries.

In one of the crashes at Rainbow Beach, a male, thought to be in his late teens, was airlifted to Nambour General Hospital after the motorbike he was riding crashed into a tree.

Paramedics attended the crash at 12.30pm where he was treated for leg and wrist injuries, including a possible compound fracture, before being airlifted.

It was the second motorbike crash of three on Sunday; a rider was taken to Gympie hospital in a stable condition earlier in the day after a crash on Neusa Vale Rd, Neusa Vale.

Around the same time, paramedics were called to Kia Ora after a woman in her fourties fell off a horse at a local gymkhana at about 12.30pm.

The woman was airlifted in a stable condition to the Royal Brisbane Hospital with a possible pelvic fracture.

In Gympie a teenage girl was lucky to escape with only minor injuries after she was struck by a vehicle near Excelsior Rd yesterday.

The pedestrian, who was attempting to cross the Bruce Highway from Hungary Jacks at around 1pm, was transported to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition.

On Friday night four people were taken to Gympie Hospital when a sedan and a people-carrier crashed south of the Caltex Gold Nugget Truck Stop about 10pm.

The driver of one vehicle and three passengers of another were in a stable condition when transported with non-life threatening injuries.

A motrocyclist was also killed in a separate accident on the Sunshine Coast on the weekend - one of which involved an unmarked police car.

The crash claimed the life of a 66-year-old Booroobin man and involved a station wagon and an unmarked police car at Mt Mellum on Sunday afternoon.
