WATCH: Woman airlifted after rally car smashes into tree

A LifeFlight helicopter airlifted a woman to hospital, after a rally car crashed head-on into a tree in the Gympie region on Saturday afternoon.

The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission Helicopter airlifted a woman to hospital, after a rally car crashed head-on into a tree in the Gympie region.

The rescue helicopter was tasked from the Sunshine Coast, around 12:40 on Saturday afternoon.

The pilot landed the aircraft in a clearing, near the accident site.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic worked with other QAS paramedics, to treat the patient for multiple injuries.

The woman, aged in her 40s, was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission helicopter performed this mission as it is currently, temporarily based on the Sunshine Coast, while the familiar blue and yellow RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter undergoes scheduled engineering.

The aircraft is part of LifeFlight Australia‘s commercial operation, which supports the work of the community helicopter fleet and is rotated through community bases when operationally required.

EARLIER:

One of two people involved in an earlier crash at Marys Creek in the Gympie region this afternoon has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.

QAS media reported one patient was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition, following the crash which reportedly occurred near Marys Creek Road and Cross Road just after midday.

The other patient was taken by road to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition.

QAS did not specify the injuries either patient suffered in the crash, described as a car impacting with a tree.
