WINTER is taking a time out this week in the Gympie region as high atmospheric warm air and warm winds from the west move in to keep temperatures elevated.

The combination of an upper-level ridge and an approaching surface trough from the south-west will create increased temperatures, Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Adam Blazak told The Gympie Times. today.

The north westerly air mass, which will move over the state from central Queensland, will mean Gympie lows will sit around 12-13 degrees and tops between 25 and 27.

The minimum temperatures will not be that dissimilar to last week’s, which were elevated by the protection of a solid layer of high clouds, but the days will be comparatively warmer as the sun will more easily break through this week’s part cover of low level clouds from the coast.

He said these frontal systems are fairly typical for this time of year and are usually followed by a drop in temperature, which could arrive in Gympie next week.
