UPDATE:
THE Gympie police have released an image of a man (pictured) who could help with their investigation into a sexual assault in Gympie last week.
Initial investigations indicate between 10pm and midnight last Thursday evening (October 6) a man and woman left a licensed premises and walked along Mary St towards the man's vehicle.
The 48-year-old woman deviated from Mary St to another location where she was sexually assaulted.
The woman was transported to Gympie Hospital for treatment.
The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, mid 30s in age, average build and with a long goatee.
Police urge anyone with information about the incident or the man pictured to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
FRIDAY October 7:
GYMPIE police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that reportedly occurred in Mary St in the early hours of this morning.
Paramedics were called to a private residence before 2am and transported a woman in her late 40s to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition.
Gympie police are guarding a section in the upper end of Mary St where the incident may have occurred.
A police spokesman said the investigation is in its earliest stages and nobody had been charged.
The woman remained in hospital this morning, a police spokesman said.
