UPDATE 4.35PM: THE four-and-a-half month old Caboolture baby who was airlifted from Gympie Hospital overnight on Sunday remains in a stable condition in the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital burns unit.
The baby boy's family was camping over the long weekend when the unthinkable happened just before midday on Sunday and the baby somehow fell into the open camp fire.
It remains unknown just how the accident happened and whether the baby was transported by his own family into Gympie or an ambulance was dispatched to Inskip to take him into the Gympie Hospital.
A specialist paediatric medical team was flown from Brisbane to the Gympie Hospital overnight Sunday to treat the four-month-old boy who was airlifted to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital suffering burns to his left arm and hand.
It was reported the boy had burns to up to 18% of his body.
He travelled in a stable condition with his mother by Brisbane-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter.
Lady Cilento Hospital confirmed today the little boy was in a stable condition in its burns unit.
