GYMPIE fire fighter training has taken to the air with the addition of the Bronco Skylift to the regions fire fighting arsenal.
The 42m high Bronco Skylift was in town on Tuesday for familiarisation training.
Gympie fire-fighter Rod Frey said the Skylift had been used in anger in Gympie five times in the last 12 months, the Carter Holt Harvey fire being the biggest.
The Bronco is stationed in Maroochydore and takes an hour to get to Gympie but Mr Frey said it was a very useful piece of equipment.
“The height allows us to get water onto areas we can't from the ground. It is even useful in a bushfire as an observation tower,” Mr Frey said.
