IT HAS been a tragic start to the month in the greater region with five road deaths and one at a popular Cooloola tourist spot in less than 10 days.
Two occurred in the greater Gympie region including a 90-year-old crash victim and a body that was found at Double Island Point on Sunday.
Power cuts homes, but no rain damage
Three people were killed on the Sunshine Coast, including two motorbike riders, in three separate crashes within a week and to the north near Hervey Bay a mother-of two was killed in a crash on Sunday.

Body found at Double Island Point

POLICE confirmed a man was found dead at Double Island Point on Sunday morning.
A spokesman for the Queensland Police Service said a body was located at the popular tourist spot at about 10am following extensive searches of the water that began the previous night.

A MAN who was one of the first people at the scene of a fatal motorbike crash in Nambour has described how paramedics tried in vain to save the crash victim.
The man, who did not wish to be named, directed traffic on Carter Rd for three hours, while paramedics administered CPR.
A 38-year-old man was declared deceased at the scene just before 7pm on Saturday.

POLICE say an off-duty nurse tried to save a motorbike rider after coming across a horrific crash scene on a Sunshine Coast hinterland road.
Emergency services were called to Connection Rd at Mooloolah Valley, near the Old Gympie Rd intersection, at 6.15am last Wednesday.
Beerwah Police Acting Sergeant Conan Sawyer said it appeared the ute had stopped on the eastbound lane, intending to turn into a driveway, when the motorbike crashed into the tray.
Witnesses sought to horror head-on that killed 90yo woman

A 90-year-old woman who was critically injured in a two car crash at Lake Macdonald last Saturday night passed away in hospital the next day.
Police believe from their initial investigations a wagon and Landcruiser smashed head on when they were travelling in opposite directions along Cooroy Noosa Road on Saturday night about 7.15pm.
The woman became entrapped and was taken to hospital in a critical condition when freed. The following day the woman died from her injuries.
