Scattered showers failed to dampen Gympie’s Anzac spirit with thousands of people gathering in the CBD Tuesday morning to commemorate the region’s servicemen and women.
Proud veterans were joined by hundreds of school students and their families and friends as they marched down Mary St, cheered on and applauded by a wall of residents lined shoulder to shoulder along either side of the street.
More than 1000 then gathered in nearby Memorial Park following the march to continue the day’s Anzac events, which started at dawn across the region.
The steady beat of drums from marching bands carried the parade through the city centre early on, with the iconic tunes of Waltzing Matilda bringing rounding out the proceedings as the marchers made their way around the corner onto Monkland St and down to the park.
