Some are special Easter events not to be missed while others are year-round adventures worth paying a visit during the 2023 Easter holidays.
High interest rates, spiralling housing affordability and availability combine with painful cost of living rises are impacting everyone right now.
But if you are looking for fun family activities to do in and around the Gympie region, we have found more than 25 in Gympie that will cost no more than $20 per person.
Workshops and events
Easter on Mary
Gympie Regional Council is hosting a festive evening to create an opportunity for families to celebrate Easter with their children the Wednesday before Easter.
Food, fun and prizes will be part of the market stalls, street entertainment, food vendors and late-night boutique shopping in Mary Street.
And for something new and exciting for returning families, the annual event’s first Colouring and Art competition and Golden Egg Hunt are not to be missed
The event will run from 5-9pm on April 5, and road closures will be in place from 3.30pm.
Gympie Aquatic Recreation Centre
In addition to their daily public swimming sessions and water slide, the Gympie aquatic centre will be free for young people aged 12-25 as part of Gympie Regional Council’s Youth Week Program on April 12, 2023.
Entry is $5.70 for an adult and a water slide pass can be purchased for $6.40.
Skateland Gympie
Skateland Gympie will host some funky disco nights during the holidays for those who want to strap on their skates and get groovy.
Disco nights cost $17 and regular skating sessions are priced from $10 excluding hire.
A free Easter egg might be waiting for you at the door.
Kids’ Golf and Easter Egg Hunt
Close to Kandanga, Honeybees Wellness Resort is hosting a morning of golf and mini golf for children as well as an exciting Easter hunt.
This as an opportunity for children to make friends while enjoying the great outdoors and learning the fundamentals of golf.
The event runs from 9am to 11am on April 6 for children between seven and 17 and costs $15 per child.
Youth Week 2023
From free sausage sizzles and movies to comedy shows, a dance party and even an escape room, Gympie Regional Council is celebrating Queensland Youth Week by hosting a range of fun activities and events from March 24 to April 22.
Some events are free of charge while others have a small entry fee.

Free movie Dumbo will show at Goomeri Multipurpose Courts and a free sausage sizzle will be available, April 12.
Free entry to all Gympie regional pools on April 12 for young people 12 to 25 years.
Soul Gold Poetry Slam: The Young and the Restless and Spoken Word Poetry Workshop, April 13.

Breathtaking beaches, walking trails and camping spots
Barnacles Dolphin Feeding, Tin Can Bay
An experience offering a chance to see dolphins up close in the wild is situated in Tin Can Bay.
There are nine Australian humpback dolphins to meet, each with its own name and personality.
Between 7am and 8am, for $10 you can feed the visiting dolphins a fish while supervised by a team of volunteers.
Coastal strolls, heritage trails and inland adventures
Looking for a one-day adventure in the great outdoors? Scattered across the Gympie region are 15+ family friendly walking trails to admire the beautiful wildlife belonging to the region.
These trails guide you through well-known natural wonders such as the Amamoor State Forest, Poona Lake and Carlo Sand Blow.
Inskip Point
One of the well-known camping hotspots of Inkip Peninsuala Recreation Area, Inskip Point boasts seven diverse camping areas and is dog friendly.
Camping permits cost $7 per person and per night and are recommended to be purchased well in advance.
Rainbow Beach
While camping isn’t actually permitted on Rainbow Beach, the stretch is a popular destination for four-wheel-driving, kayaking and more.
A one-day vehicle access permit for the Cooloola Recreation Area is priced from $14.
Close by is a 15km stretch along the sands of Teewah Beach which allows camping and the township of Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Bay also offer caravan and camping parks.
Hidden Camp at Pie Creek
This campground is an opportunity to relax and enjoy the wildlife while only a short drive to from the township.
This dog-friendly area is ideal for biking, fishing, hiking and more and firepits and camp kitchen are on site.
Day passes can be purchased from $8 and camping sites come to $18 per night for one person.
Goomeri Caravan and Bushcamp
This dog-friendly camping park is located on a 300-acre farm just 3km from the Goomeri township and has several dams for swimming and kayaking.
Amenities and a camp kitchen are accessible and each campsite has a firepit.
A campsite for two costs $20 per night and children under four years old camp free.
Museums and galleries
Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum
The museum near Lake Alford is a fantastic opportunity to find out exactly why Gympie is dubbed “the town that saved Queensland” following the Gold Rush.
Dating from when James Nash first discovered gold in 1867, the museum provides a learning experience about the extensive history of mining and more in Gympie.
The program for holidays includes gold panning demonstrations, miniature train rides, steaming days and blacksmith shop demonstrations depending on volunteer availability.
Entry fees are up to $12 per person.
Woodworks Museum and Interpretive Centre
Children under five can enter free at the Woodworks Museum in Gympie and entry is $10 per person over five.
Established in 1984, the museum’s purpose is to salvage and demonstrate the history of forest and timber industries of the Gympie and Burnett regions.
Old equipment, machinery and other artefacts are on display as well as demonstrations as well as morning tea and lunch bookings for under $13 per person.
The museum is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm and is located at 8 Fraser Road, Gympie.
Gympie Regional Gallery
The Gympie Regional Gallery was established in 1998 and has been hosting exhibitions of current and emerging Gympie and visiting artists.
The gallery has ever-changing free exhibitions on to be enjoyed and has organised an “Art Stars” children’s art group - the next session to be held in the holidays.
The group is intended to give children inspiration and confidence in exploring different art mediums.
The session will run from 10.30am to 12pm on Saturday, April 1 at the gallery in Nash Street and has a fee of $9 per child.
Kilkivan Shire Museum
Many old photographs, forestry machinery and dairy industry equipment call the Kilkivan Shire Museum home as well as many ores and minerals.
The main buildings have been furnished to resemble places of the past, including a bedroom, general store and classroom.
The museum is located on 12 Bligh Street, Kilkivan and is open from 10am until 3pm every weekday for a small admission price under $5.
