Telstra has signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Munna Creek Solar Farm Investments Pty Ltd for a solar farm project northwest of Gympie.
Multi-national renewable energy developer Mytilineos has acquired the 120MW Munna Creek Solar Farm project, 40km northwest of Gympie, and started building it in August.
The project was originally developed by Renewable Energy System Technologies Pty Ltd (REST Energy) and will be built on 255ha of an overall 470ha project area.
The project was approved by the Fraser Coast Regional Council in early 2018.
A 132kV substation will be built to facilitate connection to the transmission lines that cross the project area.
It will be the Greece-headquartered Mytilineos’s ninth Australian solar farm project, including the recently completed Moura Solar Farm near Banana in northern Queensland, and another being developed near Kingaroy.
Telstra has now secured half of the $150million solar farm’s output.
Construction is expected to create up to 150 jobs and once completed, the farm will generate enough clean energy to power around 50,000 homes.
