Reedman on fire in the heat

A TOP drawer display of seam bowling by Wests' Scott Reedman rattled the Valleys' top order batsman and set up the first win for Wests in the competition.

A TOP drawer display of seam bowling by Wests’ Scott Reedman rattled the Valleys’ top order batsman and set up the first win for Wests in the one day competition.

Reedman (right) finished with figures of four for 21after his medium-paced deliveries rattled the stumps of three of the Valleys’ batsmen and lead to another being caught out.

Reedman said he was happy with his effort with the ball.

“We had them six for 40 at one stage and it was hot,” Reedman said.

Thankfully for Valleys, Mal Gear stepped up to top score with 77 and rescued their innings.

“We did well to get to 168 ... we just had a bad start,” Gear said.

“Reedman really knocked our top order around.

“It was a good wicket, but it had a bit in it early on,” he said.

Gear ended up getting stumped looking for runs in the second last over, but said he was happy with his knock.

Reedman said Wests’ batsman Luke Canning was on fire with the bat again.

“He scored 77 and we made their total with four overs to spare.”

The fill-in captain said he would be happy to hand the reigns back to Neil McKean next week for their encounter against Colts.

“We hope to win, but we have to bat well,” Reedman said.

“They have some good players who can score runs if you let them.

“They are not easy, not when we play them anyway.

“After our close loss last weekend and win on the weekend we are travelling pretty well,” he said.

The Gympie Times apologises for no scoreboards this week. We were unable to get the scorebooks.
